Cornwall Towns

Cornwall lies at the far end of Englands south west peninsula. It offers the visitor more miles of rugged, unspoilt coastline than any other county in England along with expanses of rolling open countryside, wooded river valleys, wild moorland and over a million years of heritage. Dotted along the coast are famous resorts and traditional unspoilt fishing villages, whilst inland lie ancient villages, historic market towns and the Cathedral city of Truro, Cornwalls capital.

For lovers of the sea, a holiday in Cornwall means you are never more than a few miles from the coast. And with over 300 beaches to choose from ranging from the smallest cove that disappears at high tide to huge resort beaches with lots of action like Fistral at Newquay, you are spoilt for choice.

There are a multitude of things to occupy your time if you are so inclined, from finding a quiet beach to relax and enjoy a book to learning to surf the Atlantic rollers. Perhaps a spot of watercolour painting is more your style, or enjoying the spectacular scenery on offer from the South West Coast Path.

Cornwall also has plenty of heritage and culture, such as stone circles older than Stonehenge, the relics of tin mining engine houses, historic houses such as Pencarrow, Lanhydrock and Trerice. The county is also famed for its artistic and literary connections. St Ives attracted and inspired the likes of Stanhope Forbes and Barbara Hepworth whose works are celebrated in the towns Tate Gallery. Writers such as Daphne du Maurier, Rosamunde Pilcher and John Betjeman made Cornwall their home and drew deeply from their surroundings to write truly inspiring pieces of literature.
