Devon Towns

Devon is a warm and welcoming county with a unique, diverse landscape and culture where visitors can enjoy year round, a wide range of activities, events and festivals and always discover something new.

Overflowing with its own special character and spirit, North Devon is far more than just a beautiful place to visit and there are few places in Britain that can lay claim to such a wonder combination of stunning landscapes; a coastline of spectacular cliffs, secret coves and golden beaches together with a hinterland of wild moorland and lush rolling hills. The North Devon coastline stretches from Lynton and Lynmouth to Hartland and includes some of the finest and cleanest beaches to be found anywhere in Europe. And the jewel in the crown is Braunton Burrows, Britain's first new-style UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) Biosphere Reserve.

Mid Devon has a delightful mix of scenery with rolling hill country around Crediton and Tiverton contrasting with the gentler open countryside of the Culm Valley.

The foreshore and cliffs of East Devon are officially recognised by UNESCO, as one of the wonders of the natural world. The Jurassic Coast, stretches for 95 miles from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset and has been designated as Englands First Natural World Heritage Site.

Full of history and heritage, Exeter is a small intimate city brimming with colourful character and steeped in ancient history; shopaholics will be delighted by the variety of shops in the compact city centre. The capital of Devon, Exeter was occupied 200 years or so before the arrival of the Romans. The Cathedral Green almost surrounds the citys beautiful Norman Cathedral, completed in 1394; call in to see the Exeter Rondels, a series of embroidered cushions, over seventy metres in length, which line the sides of the nave. Greater in length than the Bayeaux Tapestry, it took over 14 million stitches to produce them.

The heart of the English Riviera, Torquay simply sparkles with holiday atmosphere - wonderful beaches, a colourful marina, theatre entertainment, nightlife and a host of family fun attractions whilst views over the bay from the terrace are inspirational. Complemented by palm trees and sub-tropical flowers, the English Riviera has over 22 miles of coastline and 18 beaches.

Devon is home to two National Parks. Dartmoor is an inspiration to all who visit; ancient stone clapper bridges and sparkling clear rivers, heather clad hills and the granite rocks of Dartmoors tors are just a few of the features which make Dartmoor such a special place. Exmoor lies in the north and combines breathtaking rugged coastline with wild heather Moorland.
